Incredible route along a disused railway 900 m above the lake through tunnels and panoramic views!
The Tracciolino is something absolutely unique, a disused railway that runs along the mountain at 900 m, overlooking the lake below with its green waters reminiscent of Canadian highland lakes. All along the route you will find handrail cables to allow you to walk safely among breathtaking views. But it doesn’t end there, there will be numerous tunnels carved into the rock to cross on foot, an ‘Adventure with a capital A! The Tracciolino cannot be described. You have to experience it!
We drive up until we cross the Tracciolino and start walking along the tracks of the disused railway. We first reach the impressive Moledana dam in Val di Ratti. We retrace our steps for about 15 minutes, and proceed in the direction of Val Codera, walking on the old rails and through numerous (man-sized!) tunnels where our torches will come in handy! The route continues between aerial passages carved into the rock and many tunnels to walk through with our heads down. We then descend for about 20 minutes to the fairy-tale village of San Giorgio, where we stop for a well-deserved lunch before retracing our steps along the Tracciolino railway.
