A loop along ancient mule tracks through rural villages on the upper lake: Peglio, Livo, Naro, Gaggio, with their typical rural stone houses, wooden balconies and many medieval churches overlooking the lake.
We start right from the lake, Domaso, along a mule track that is sometimes steep but not difficult, with a solid surface, we climb to Pozzolo where we meet the first church, Santa maria delle Grazie. We continue through splendid stone villages, once alpine pastures, such as Segna, Naro where an authentic jewel, the Church of Santa Croce, dominates the entire lake. We continue to Peglio and then Livo, one of the most beautiful villages on the lake, we admire the churches of San Giacomo Nuova and San Giacomo Vecchia, simplicity and elegance.
A well-deserved lunch stop at the trattoria Sant’Anna, lulled by the gurgling of the stream flowing beside us, and we descend to Domaso along a beautiful paved road that reminds me so much of ‘the yellow Brick Road’ from The Wizard of Oz!
