A weekend of stunning views, walks and relaxation! Let’s take in the splendour of the Cinque Terre from the boat and along the footpaths, with a dip in the sea and aperitifs with friends!
Saturday’s programme:
DISTANCE: 3 km / ELEVATION GAIN: +333 m
Meet at Milano Centrale station at 07.45 (Milan 08.05–La Spezia 11.21) on Intercity 657.
LIGURIA! Once you’ve reached La Spezia by train, head straight for the sea. Stop for lunch – whether you prefer focaccia or a mixed fry. We’ll board the 1.30 pm boat to cruise the waters of the Gulf of Poets , taking in the stunning views of Porto Venere and the island of Palmaria, before heading towards the Cinque Terre and disembarking at Riomaggiore (journey time: 1.5 hours).
Let’s explore the village and walk along the famous Via dell’Amore! It’s all flat all the way to Manarola. We’ll walk through the village and climb a flight of steps with stunning views up to what is known as the ‘sixth village’: Volastra! An enchanting little village that takes its name from the olive trees that still surround this picturesque hamlet. An aperitif of 5 Terre DOC white wine in the shade of the holm oaks, then we’ll take a taxi to the Sanctuary, 500 metres above sea level, where a delicious dinner awaits us in a peaceful and wonderful setting.
Sunday’s Programme
DISTANCE: 12 km / ELEVATION GAIN: +400 m / ELEVATION LOSS: -870 m
Breakfast at the hotel; we then follow a downhill mule track through holm oak woods to reach Monterosso. We explore this charming little village, visiting some ‘must-see’ sights such as the parish church of St John the Baptist, and then head down to the sea, along the beautiful beach where we stop for a dip or, if you’re feeling a bit less adventurous, just to splash about!
From here we climb up to Punta Mesco, a headland from which we can admire the gulf and see all of the Cinque Terre! We stop at a spot with a superb view for a packed lunch, and from there we head down to Levanto
If we go there, we’ll stop for an aperitif before heading back to Milan (departure from Levanto at 17:02, expected arrival in Milan at 20:05).
