An evening outing to a beach free from light pollution to gaze at the stars and Saturn in the company of an amateur astronomer
The magic of a starry sky– a sight that our distant ancestors gazed upon every day, yet today… so rare! So let’s seek out clearings beyond the hill, shielded from the city lights by the imposing face of Monte Due Mani! We’ll go for a pleasant evening walk, then gaze up at the sky and let ourselves be enchanted by tales of stars and planets that our astronomy-loving friend Silvio loves to share with us dreamers! With a pair of binoculars, we should be able to watch Saturn rise – the most beautiful planet, the lord of the rings!
PROGRAMME:
From the meeting point in Lecco , it’s a further 35-minute drive to Culmine di San Pietro, the pass between the provinces of Lecco and Bergamo. Much of the route will follow an easy, flat or gently sloping footpath. The path leading to the Redondello pass climbs steeply, but the tranquillity and beauty of that clearing will make our efforts well worth it! Here we’ll stop for a‘packed dinner’. We’ll carry on to the Baite di Desio and return to the Alpina farmhouse, where we’ll spend some timestargazing. Once the stargazing session is over, we’ll be back at the cars in a matter of minutes.
