A walk in the hills and bottling good wine from a demijohn, just as they used to do in the old days…

Wine tastes completely different when you bottle it yourself! In keeping with traditional farming customs, wine used to be bought in demijohns and then bottled in spring during the waning moon…

For the occasion, we’ll be getting hold of a demijohn of fine 2012 Nebbiolo (13.5 per cent) from Dario Ceste (my supplier since time immemorial!), which we’ll be bottling outdoors in a lovely field kindly made available by my cousin Paolo!

But duty comes first: to earn our reward from Bacchus, we’ll go on a pleasant walk through Valmadrera, San Tomaso and SamBrosera.

A packed lunch on a rustic wooden table at the bottling site, and then let the fun begin! We’ll obviously be having a few drinks!!!

Everyone will have a go at the art of bottling and will take home two full bottles!
