A roundabout at high altitude, a 360° view of the Valsassina

Mount Muggio and Alpe Giumello are easily accessible but unexpectedly rich places.

We propose the complete circumnavigation of the mountain on a fairly simple but varied itinerary. We start from the wide alpine pastures on the eastern slope and after crossing a small stream, we follow a beautiful path through a fir forest. Having reached a balcony in the middle of the northern slope, we find an unexpected little church that was built as a hermitage in the 11th century and later enlarged in the 16th century. It is dedicated to Saint Ulderico, one of the seven (or perhaps more…) hermits who lived in these mountains.

After the spiritual elevation, we must also rise in altitude, along the only steep (but short) section of our route. Larch trees, clearings, mountain views as we move west and then south. To enjoy the ever-widening view of the lake, they have installed yet another giant bench here. We arrive at the small Alpe Chiaro huts, while paragliders fly above us. and here we are back at the starting point. Before heading back, however, we can enjoy a beer or an aperitif at the nice huts/restaurants that welcome walkers here
