A walk along one of the most picturesque stretches of the River Adda between Airuno and Paderno, reached by train

Easy to reach, scenic, flat, peaceful, far from noise, traffic, hustle and bustle, embraced by nature.

We meet in front of the Paderno-Robbiate station at 10:15 a.m. (for those arriving from Milan: Milano Garibaldi 9:31-Paderno 10.06), a little less than 1 km through the historic centre we reach the Paderno Bridge, a masterpiece recognised as one of the symbols of Italian industrial archaeology.

This is where the‘Adda di Leonardo’ Ecomuseum begins. As we walk along the Adda River, we see evidence of the passage of Leonardo da Vinci, who carried out several studies in the field of hydraulics in this area to improve navigation.

Through a deep green forest, accompanied by the local avifauna, herons, coots, ducks, grebes, we continue to Leonardo’s ferry, an absolutely Green means of transport invented five centuries ago! Those who wish can reach the other side of the river aboard this ferry.

We pass Brivio’s lakefront, which looks like a postcard with its pastel-coloured buildings and moored boats. We break for lunch (packed) on the riverbank, then walk carefree among picturesque views until we reach Airuno, where we return by train to our starting point (trains every 30 minutes; those arriving from Milan stay on the train until home).
