We will walk along the ‘Viandante’ (wayfarer) from Abbadia Lariana to Lierna, a scenic path through picturesque villages, medieval towers and churches, and fields of olive trees.

Trains North Milan-Sondrio (Milano Centrale 8.20am arrival in Abbadia 9.22am)
Return: Train from Lierna 4.19 p.m. arrival at Abbadia 4.35 p.m.; those coming from Milan can stay on the train until Lecco (4.45 p.m.), change at Lecco (5.01 p.m.), arrival in Milan at 5.40 p.m.

We will walk along the ‘Viandante’, a panoramic path used over the centuries to connect Milan to Switzerland.
The route offers splendid views of Lake Como, passing through picturesque villages, ancient courtyards and the remains of medieval buildings, small mountain churches, and terraced vineyards and olive groves. Deserved stops will allow us to contemplate and photograph these breathtaking landscapes.
Programme of the day
From Abbadia Station, we reach the start of the Sentiero del Viandante in just a few minutes. We walk along this ancient path admiring scenic views of the lake and mountains. We reach the Church of San Giorgio (11th century), which stands on a rocky spur, and from here to Maggiana, to the medieval tower known as the tower of Barbarossa. We climb the tower (free offer), home to the Museum of Peasant Art. Packed lunch at a bar where we can use the facilities and buy something. We continue up and down to the Lierna railway station, where we take the train back to Abbadia (€1.80).

What to bring for the hike
Hiking shoes or boots, water, packed lunch, optional trekking poles, rain and wind protection.
NB: You will find several fountains along the route where you can fill your water bottle.
