A white fairy tale. A landscape straight out of a Christmas film. I cannot find the words to describe Val Roseg, after all, the magic is something abstract. We walk among stone pines, silence reigns, interspersed with the gurgling of the stream and the singing of birds: chinchas, hazelnuts, nuthatches. Groups of chamois can often be seen on the slopes.

Starting from the stop of the Bernina Express in Pontresina in the Engadine, we climb up the road travelled by the typical historic horse-drawn carriages. The difference in altitude is not much and is well distributed. We move along a false plain, skirt a stream, and admire alpine pastures framed by high snow-capped peaks.

Everything is covered in the whiteness of the snow. The path is well-trodden, however, and we walk easily in boots, but to be even more comfortable and safe, we bring light crampons. (If you don’t have them contact me, we rent them for €5 per day).

We reach the renowned Hotel Roseg Gletscher in this splendour. We stop for lunch at a small clearing where the chickadees will come to eat crumbs and seeds right out of your hands!

We return along the outward route, making small variations through the forest.
