A new stage trail on Lake Como, to be walked at a leisurely pace to discover the entire western shore, between lake and mountains. The northernmost stage: from Sorico to Dongo.
We start immediately with one of the highlights of this stage, the little churches scattered halfway up the mountainside, with splendid views of the lake. And the church of San Miro in Sorico is in a marvellous position, well worth the climb up here, yes, because the water saint born in Canzo came up here. And just for us the church will be open. We then continue on, admiring the frescoes in the ancient square of Gera Lario, the route of the ancient Via Regina passes through here. In front of the poetic and isolated Church of San Vincenzo we start to climb gently. The view sweeps over the lake and in front of us the 2,600 m high Legnone, the king of mountains on the lake!
Wonderful little hamlets such as Trezzone and Vercana take us halfway down to Domaso , which welcomes us with its ancient bridge over the Livo stream. A beautiful route along the lake takes us to Gravedona: medieval alleys and the architectural wonders of the Sacred Area with the famous church of Santa Maria del Tiglio and Santa Maria delle Grazie
Another beautiful walk along the lake allows us to reach Dongo and then Musso. Places rich in history and important at the end of the Second World War. Mussolini’s capture here left its mark, there is even a small museum to remember these tragic moments. LENGTH: approx. 17 km DURATION: approx. 4.5 h walking time, return approx. 5 p.m. to Gera Lario
MEETING POINT: 8.30 a. m. at Ezio Galli in via Fiandra 15 in Lecco, from there with a few cars we go up to Sorico (CO) where the route begins
Cost: 20 € + 3 € for return by ‘Curiera’ (approx. 30 minutes)
What to bring: hiking boots, water, backpack, clothing suitable for the weather. PACKED LUNCH
Difficulty: cart tracks, asphalted roads and mule tracks in the woods
