A Carnival you don’t expect, emotions, rituals, the magic of an ancient tradition
A unique and singular tradition: the extraordinary masks of the bei and brut, the ciocia, the carlisep, the sapeur. Symbolic characters that have spanned the centuries.
In Schignano, young and old await the carnival from 5 January, a moment of confirmation of social relations in a village in the shadow of Sasso Gordona that has known centuries of emigration. BUT WATCH THIS VIDEO THAT IS WORTH MORE THAN ANY DESCRIPTION!
We set off on foot from Argegno to slowly enter the atmosphere of the village ready for the carnival, perhaps we will be greeted by strange scampani, perhaps fleeting apparitions, perhaps someone will run towards us… We then eat what we have placed in our rucksacks(bring your own glass, I’ll bring you a bottle) while waiting for the big parade at 2 p.m., at the end of which we return to Argegno on foot.
LEVEL: + 450 m approx.
LENGTH: 8 km approx. DURATION: 3 h walking approx. Return approx. 5 p.m.
MEETING POINT: 9.00 a. m. at BAR ESSENZA inside the Gran Mercato in Via Sebenico in Como (hamlet of Tavernola) – Park in the elevated car park next door. We then reach ARGEGNO with a few cars (pay car parks)
Cost: 20 €
What to bring: hiking boots, water, backpack, clothing suitable for the weather. PACKED LUNCH
