When the expanse of Predarossa opened up before my eyes, between the gurgling streams and the alpine setting, I was thrown into the wilderness, the unspoilt landscapes of the American Indians.

Having reached the beautiful Piana di Predarossa, we walk on the flat for just over 1km, skirting the river. After a 30-minute warm-up, the ascent begins, the difference in altitude becomes significant, but the views over the valley and the Alps repay us for the effort. Known as ‘the First Refuge of Italy’, the Rifugio Cesare Ponti at 2,559 m above sea level will be our destination and base for a well-deserved lunch! For those who wish, we can continue climbing to reach Bocchetta Roma at an altitude of 2890 metres and admire the landscape on the peaks of Val di Mello
